Arti Singh to Play Mandakini in Sony's 'Encounter'

Actress Arti Singh, who is currently seen in Uttaran, is all set to explore the much-dreaded underworld in her latest show, Encounter. She will play former Bollywood actress Mandakini, who was more in news for her alleged link-up with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim than her career. Not many people know that Arti's father is Mandakini's distant uncle.

Says Arti, who is Bollywood actor Govinda's niece, "I am thrilled to play this role. She is a distant relative and I had met her seven years ago, on her son's birthday. She is very beautiful. Playing her on the screen was another experience altogether. She is someone who has enjoyed power and I love to play a character drunk on power.


I shot the whole night and was tired physically, but mentally, I was excited like a child." Ask her about the transition from a doting bahu to a controversial actress and pat comes the reply, "I don't really care. It's just another character for me. Also, who are we to decide for Mandakini? It's her life, whether controversial or non-controversial. It's a great opportunity for me as I get to showcase a different dimension as an actor," she concludes.
